Even after a remarkable postseason run which resulted in the teams’ second championship in the past five seasons, Super Bowl MVP Quarterback Eli Manning wants to see improvement in the regular season.

“We’ve got to improve,” Manning said.  “We were 9-7 in the regular season and that’s not good enough.  We have to have urgency and consistency throughout the season.”  The Giants have lost a few key pieces from last year’s team; including wide receiver Mario Manningham, running back Brandon Jacobs, and right tackle Kareem McKenzie.

Defensive end Justin Tuck knows that while a Super Bowl win is a major accomplishment, the team cannot get caught up in the buzz of last season.

“The biggest thing is that we need to get our work in and realize that last year was last year, and that’s what our focus needs to be,” Tuck said.

Young Wide Receiver Victor Cruz is out to prove that his magical 2011 season was not a fluke.  With Manningham gone and Hakeem Nicks limited in training camp, Cruz has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.

“There’s a lot more personally for me to accomplish and there’s a lot more for us to accomplish as a team,” Cruz said.  “Our teammates do a great job of keeping everybody humble.”

The Giants play their first preseason game on Friday, August 10th against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Kick-off is slated for 7:30pm E.T.
