Adrian Beltre hit three home runs in a 12-1 Texas Rangers win over the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday night.
The Rangers third baseman connected in the second inning and twice in the fourth. He finished with five RBIs.
It marked the second time in his career he has gone deep three times in a game, the last coming against the Tampa Bay Rays in the playoffs last season in the American League Division Series.
Beltre had two chances later in the game to hit his fourth home run to tie a major league record, but came up empty both times.
“I’m trying to hit a home run,” Beltre said of his last at-bat. “I got a pitch to hit, too, but I couldn’t do it.”
“It was a fantastic night,” manager Ron Washington said. “I was hoping for him to get a fourth one also, but it didn’t work.”
Beltre became the ninth third baseman in baseball history to have 10 seasons of at least 20 homeruns with his performance.
