Bialik was driving alone in a car when it was struck by another vehicle that was carrying three tourists from out of the country, Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Karen Rayner told ABC News Wednesday evening.

The crash, which Rayner described as a, “near head-on collision,” took place at about noon near Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. No citations were issued.

Bialik, 36, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained to her left hand and thumb. The occupants of the other car had minor abrasions. They were not taken to the hospital.

A representative for the actress did not immediately reply to ABC News’ requests for comment.

After starring in Blossom, Bialik studied neuroscience at UCLA, where she received her Ph.D. in 2007.

She has two young sons, and is the author of the parenting guidebook, Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way.
