NFL via Getty Images(BEREA, Ohio) — Already thin at linebacker, the Cleveland Browns find themselves down another defensive player as linebacker Chris Gocong is likely to miss the entire 2012 season after suffering an Achilles injury.

“It’s an Achilles for Gocong, so he’ll have surgery,” Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said. “There’s no piont in trying to conceal anything. It’s an Achilles.”

Gocong could have the surgery as early as Monday, and the team doctors will determine the severity of the injury. Gocong fell to ground midway through the team’s practice on Saturday, and everyone feared the worst.

Since his rookie year with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2007, Gocong has been a very durable player during his NFL career. He has missed just one game over the past five seasons.

Gocong was signed to a three-year contract extension by the team during the offseason. Since being acquired from the Eagles before the 2010 season, Gocong has emerged as a reliable starting player for the team. Over the past two seasons with Cleveland, he’s totaled 145 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

The team is already dealing with injuries to defensive tackle Phil Taylor and linebacker Scott Fujita is suspended the first three games of the season.
