Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he does not expect wideout Miles Austin to play in the final two preseason games as he recovers from a strained hamstring.

The Cowboys want to make sure Austin is ready to go for the first regular season game against the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

“The risks of him getting out there and really competing at this time would I think be overruled (by) the game we have for him being completely healthy in New York,” Jones said on KRLD-FM.  “Now, I’m sure he’d be the first to tell you he could go if we were playing New York tonight, and we will have him as ready as he can be for that. So that’s the plan.”

Austin was bothered by hamstring injuries last year and missed six games.

The news only adds to the concern about the Cowboy’s receiving unit, as tight end Jason Witten and fellow wide receiver Dez Bryant are dealing with injuries that could keep them out of the season opener.
