(BRISTOL, Tenn.) — NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Denny Hamlin passed Carl Edwards with 39 laps remaining to take the checkered flag in Saturday’s running of the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
“I felt like we were the only car that could really pass like we could, and at any given point it was tough to get around no matter who was in front of you, simply because of the high line was just typically the place you wanted to be,” Hamlin said.
It’s Hamlin’s third victory on the season and his first career win at Bristol. He now moves into a four-way tie for the top seed in NASCAR’s Chase for the Championship.
Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Brian Vickers and Marcos Ambrose rounded out the top five.
