(MIAMI) — The Miami Dolphins announced on Monday that rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be starting under center for the team’s season opener against the Houston Texans. He edged out last season’s starter, Matt Moore.
The Dolphins selected Tannehill out of Texas A&M with the eighth overall pick in this year’s NFL draft. During his career with the Aggies, the 24-year-old was named first-team academic all-Big 12 three times.
David Garrard was set to begin the season as the Dolphins’ starting quarterback, but he has been sidelined since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this month.
