To reward him, the Flyers have announced they have agreed to a two-year extension with Laviolette through the 2014-2015 season.

The Flyers have made the playoffs all three seasons that Laviolette has coached the team, including a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in his first season after he replaced John Stevens midseason.

“We are thrilled to have Peter continue his work with our group as we push to compete for the Stanley Cup,” Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. “Peter has done a terrific job for us and is very deserving of this extension.”

Since taking over the Flyers, Laviolette has gone 122-73-26 over that span. He has the third most wins among Eastern Conference coaches since being hired by the Flyers.

Last season, Laviolette led the Flyers to the second round of the playoffs before falling to the Eastern Conference Champions New Jersey Devils.
