Jets and Rams Trade Offensive Tackles

Doug Pensinger/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The New York Jets traded demoted offensive tackle Wayne Hunter to the Rams for offensive tackle Jason Smith, Monday night.
Smith, the second pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, has struggled since entering the league. This offseason, he restructured his contract. He originally was supposed to make $10 million, but now will make $4 million.
He is expected to take take Hunter’s role as the backup tackle and tight end in jumbo formations.
As for Hunter, he goes to St. Louis where he’ll be reunited with former Jets’ offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Hunter lost his starting job this preseason to Austin Howard, after allowing 2 1/2 sacks in the teams loss to the Giants.
Hunter is due $2.45 million guarenteed in 2012.
