Jobless Claims Rise to 372,000

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — Jobless claims continued to climb last week, rising by 4,000, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Labor Department.
For the week ending Aug. 18, the government reports the number of people filing for benefits jumped to 372,000. The previous week, claims stood at 368,000.
The four-week average also took a turn upwards, increasing by 3,750 to 368,000.
