Joss Whedon Will Return to Assemble “Avengers” Sequel
Published at(NEW YORK) — In a company earnings call from Walt Disney CEO Robert Iger on Tuesday, Iger announced Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon will return for the sequel to the Marvel blockbuster.
With comic fan Whedon at the helm, The Avengers raked in $1.5 billion globally, becoming one of the top-earning films of all time.
Iger also announced that a rumored Avengers-related TV project is moving forward with ABC, and Whedon — who earned a legion of fans through his TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly — will be assisting in that small-screen endeavor as well.
The Avengers 2 is slated for a May 4, 2014 release, after a string of the film’s superheroes have another go-round at the box office individually: Iron Man 3 hits theaters in May of 2013; Thor’s sequel Thor: The Dark World will debut in November of the same year; and Captain America 2: Winter Soldier is slated to debut in April of 2014.
