(LOS ANGELES) — The Los Angeles Lakers plan to erect a statue of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, to honor the NBA hall-of-famer.
The status is going to be unveiled in the near future.
Abdul-Jabbar would be the sixth statue to be placed outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The other five are former Lakers Magic Johnson, Jerry West and broadcaster Chick Hearn. Wayne Gretzky and Oscar De La Hoya also have their own statues.
Over the course of his 20-year career, Abdul-Jabbar won six championships to go along with six MVP awards. He was also a 19-time All-Star.
He is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with 38,387 points.
