PETERSBURG, Fla.) — Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria on Tuesday played in his first Major League game since April 30, a contest that saw right-hander James Shields pitch eight innings of one-run ball as the Rays (57-52) topped the Toronto Blue Jays (53-56), 4-1.

Longoria had missed the last 85 games with a partially torn left hamstring.

“It was probably as nervous as I’ve ever been to play a game,” Longoria said to Sun Sports after finishing the game 1 for 3 with an RBI. “I had the good kind of butterflies. I was excited and it was weird to experience that two times in a year, but again, it is all smiles and a good day.”

The Rays are now game and a half out of the American League Wildcard race.
