Michael Phelps Captures Gold In 200-Meter Individual Medley

CHRISTOPHE SIMON/AFP/GettyImages(LONDON) — Swimmer Michael Phelps captured his first individual medal of the London Olympics on Thursday, taking home the gold in the 200-meter individual medley.
The 27-year-old Phelps clocked a time of 1:54.27 seconds, beating American teammate Ryan Lochte by more than six-tenths of a second. Laslzo Cseh of Hungary took the bronze with a time of 1:56.22.
It’s Phelps’ 20th career Olympic Medal and his 16th overall gold.
