Murray defeated Roger Federer of Switzerland in the Olympic Men’s Tennis Final on Sunday at Wimbeldon in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 to bring home the gold for his native Great Britain.

The victory came four weeks after Murray was trounced by Federer on Centre Court in the Wimbledon Final. The Scotsman won the first set of that final before dropping the final three.

“I’ve had a lot of tough losses in my career,” he said. “This is the best way to come back from the Wimbledon final. I’ll never forget it.”

Murray has still not won a Grand Slam tournament, but the hometown crowd at the All England Club was behind Murray from the start.

Murray dominated throughout, winning nine straight games at one point and breaking Federer’s serve four times.

It marks the first time Murray has bested Federer in a final, having lost to him in three Grand Slam Finals.

Federer was looking to complete the career Golden Slam by winning his first Olympic singles final, but had to settle for silver.
