Andrew D. Bernstein/NBAE via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul had successful surgery on a torn ligament in his right thumb Tuesday, the team announced.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Shin, a hand specialist at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.

Paul is expected to be out eight weeks, and should return for the Clippers’ season opener October 31 against Memphis.

The 27-year-old five-time all-star originally injured the thumb during the playoffs. He re-aggravated the injury in Las Vegas during the first day of training camp for Team USA.

Paul played throughout the London Olympics with his thumb taped, starting all eight games. He averaged 8.3 points, 5.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game, helping the Americans secure the gold medal.
