Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez hit a solo home run in the top of the 19th, that ended up sealing the Cardinals fate.

Pirates second baseman/outfielder Josh Harrison had two hits and a spectacular catch in right field, which he made while running into the wall, in the bottom of the nineteenth.

“I knew as I was chasing that ball and got to the warning track, my only thought was, alright, here we go,” Harrison said about his catch. “I knew I was going to hit it [the wall]. It was one of those things when I caught it it was like a sigh of relief.”

Pittsburgh now stands alone in the top spot for the second National League Wild Card, one game up on San Francisco and two on St. Louis.

The game took six hours and seven minutes to finish, tying the longest game of the season.
