Host Jon Stewart thought the best way to approach the situation is how many women bond over bad break-ups: with pints of Ben & Jerry’s.

“The last time I had a bad break-up, Ben & Jerry got me through some of the tougher times,” Jon Stewart said.  “So I thought you and I could bond over this, and talk about, ‘Boy, you are better off, kick her to the curb — whatever!'”

For the most part, Pattinson didn’t take the bait, but said good-naturedly the experience taught him one important lesson.

“My biggest problem in my life is I’m cheap.  I didn’t hire a publicist…and every awkward interview, normally actors have these things scripted…I’m gonna hire a publicist,” Pattinson said, to which Stewart joked, “Unless you have a time machine.”  Pattinson joked, “Either way would do.”

Pattinson went on to plug his upcoming film Cosmopolis, and urged his die-hard Twilight fan base to support the limited-release film.  He urged them to make the opening box office “bigger than Dark Knight,” but acknowledged that might be difficult because the movie opens in only six theaters this week.

“Buy eight tickets each,” he joked.
