Syria to be Expelled from Organization of Islamic Cooperation?
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Syria is likely to be expelled this week from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, an international body that represents the Muslim world.
It would be an act of punishment, further isolating Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, for a crackdown on a 17-month uprising that has escalated into a civil war. It has killed over 21,000 people, according to activists groups.
World powers are split over what to do in Syria with growing calls for international intervention.
