After setting several Olympic records and scoring 156 points in their win over Nigeria in their last game, the Americans fought serious resistance from Lithuania throughout.

NBA MVP LeBron James scored 20 points to lead the U.S. and scored nine of those in the fourth quarter. Carmelo Anthony also chipped in 20, Kevin Durant had 16 and Chris Paul had six assists and four steals.

The Americans shot only 10 for 33 from three-point range and were out-rebounded 42-37.

Lithuania led 84-82 with 5:50 to play and cut the U.S. lead to one before James scored five straight points on a three-pointer and a big dunk to get the U.S. back on track.

After the game, U.S. forward Kevin Love took to Twitter to lament his struggles during the game.  “Shaq on the free throw line today!!! My bad USA. Good win for us. Needed a game like that. On to the next.”

Linas Kleiza scored 25 points for the Lithuanians.
