"The Possession" Opens; "Avengers" Expands for Labor Day Weekend
(NEW YORK) -- Earlier this week, the drama Lawless and the kids film The Oogieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure hit theaters. Another movie joins them at the box office on Friday: The Possession.
The horror film, which is based on a true story, features Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick as a divorced couple whose youngest daughter acquires a strange wooden box at a garage sale. That box contains some sort of evil spirit that takes control of the child and turns her into a demonic being.
The Possession is rated PG-13.
And if you haven't seen Marvel's The Avengers yet, the Labor Day weekend gives you a good chance to do so. It is temporarily expanding to 1,700 theaters, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There's online speculation that it could contain new footage.
The superhero blockbuster, which opened in May, screened in only 123 theaters last weekend.
