Tribes Distribute Money, Ban Press

(FORT HALL) – Each member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes is getting a $10,000 check this week. The funds are coming from a $60 million settlement with the federal government regarding the mismanagement of tribal lands nearly a century ago. Hundreds of people lined up Thursday, after tribal leaders agreed to split it evenly among members. Press outlets were banned from the event amid concerns from the tribal council that outsiders would paint the event negatively. The tribe is offering financial workshops to help members better manage their money.
