U.S. Women’s Rout France, Win Gold
Published at(LONDON) — The Women’s Americans basketball team won their fifth straight gold medal on Saturday after they cruised past France 86-50.
It was a 12-point game at the half but once the third quarter hit, it was smooth sailing for the United States.
“It’s not easy to just be put together and be expected to win a gold medal,” Diana Taurasi said. “It’s a special feeling.”
Candace Parker scored 21 points and pulled in 11 rebounds which were too much for France to handle. For the rest on the roster, along with Parker, they’ll be shifting their attention towards the Rio Games in 2016.
“The legacy is real,” said five-time Olympian Teresa Edwards, who was in attendance on Saturday. “What these kids have been doing is amazing. Without much time to practice. In the middle of the WNBA season. And they look good. It’s like the whole world knows who we are. I’m really proud of them.”
