(NEW YORK) — The New York Yankees have placed Ivan Nova on the 15-day disabled list after an MRI revealed inflammation in his right rotator cuff.
Nova claims to have suffered the injury during his latest start against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. According to Nova, he felt “stiffness” in his shoulder while facing his final batter. The Yankees have said that Nova will be treated with rest and medication. He also will not throw a ball for at least five days.
“Any time a guy says he has a little stiffness in his shoulder, you’re going to worry,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “We don’t think it’s anything too concerning, but we’ve got to make sure.”
In 25 starts this season, Nova went 11-7 with a 4.92 ERA.
