(NEW YORK) — If the Oakland Athletics want to continue their Cinderella season, they’ll have to do it without third baseman Brandon Inge going forward. Inge will miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a shoulder injury Saturday against the Boston Red Sox.
Inge suffered the injury on a throw from third base. He wound up staying in the game, and even hit a two-run double the very next inning.
“I probably didn’t tell them how bad it hurt,” Inge said. “Every time I throw the ball, it kills me. But I just wanted to make sure on a year like this I didn’t leave anything on the table. I know that I can kind of be at peace with myself knowing that I literally gave everything that I had to offer this team. I’m at peace with that.”
The 35-year-old Inge played in 74 games for the Athletics this season. During his time in Oakland, Inge hit .226 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs.
