Team Owner Jerry Jones informed Romo that the team is interested in signing him to an extension, according to sources.

Romo’s contract is set to expire after the 2013 season and the Cowboys are eager to get a deal done because his salary-cap charge will double from $8 million this season to $16 million next season.

Preliminary talks on the extension have begun, but Romo wants to wait until the team has a few more wins under their belt.  If the Cowboys make a run in the postseason, Romo can increase his leverage to get a better deal.

On the subject of a possible contract extension, Romo said, “I haven’t even thought about it.”

The 32-year-old quarterback threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns in a week one victory over the New York Giants.
