Not only is the show going to compete with The Voice for your attention this season, but it’s actually going to compete with The Voice tonight — the NBC show has scheduled an episode at the same time.

So why should you watch X Factor?  Let Lovato break it down for you.

“You really won’t expect how funny Britney is. She’s really, really funny,” Lovato tells ABC News.  “I laugh all the time at the really witty remarks that she makes.”

In addition, she promises, “Me and Simon go at it. So, it’s always interesting to see what we do to each other and it’s an unpredictable show. I think it’s going to be great.”

Lovato said that she’s thrilled to be a judge on The X Factor because she’s always been a big fan of reality singing shows in general.

“I actually watched every episode of American Idol the first season, and then I felt like nobody could top Kelly Clarkson, so I stopped watching it,” she laughs. “I’d always wanted to audition for American Idol, and I can’t believe that now, by the time I’m old enough, I’m sitting on a panel for an even better show!”

Though the newly-minted MTV VMA winner says that joining The X Factor was a “no-brainer” for her, she wasn’t prepared for one particular aspect of the show.

“The most surprising thing was how emotionally involved you get with the people auditioning,” she tells ABC News.  “You know, you root for everybody…I personally relate to the young girls that are trying to make it — you know, ages 14 to 19 or even older.  I know what it’s like to want your big break and how much it hurts when you don’t get it.  So, I think the hardest part is how emotionally involved you get and how much you want people to succeed.”

The X Factor premieres at 8 p.m. on Fox, and continues Thursday night.
