Djokovic Advances to Open Semifinals

Cameron Spencer/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Second seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the US Open semifinals Thursday, by beating Juan Martin del Potro 6-2, 7-6 (3), 6-4, under the lights at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
“Even though it was a straight set win, it was much closer than the score indicated,” Djokovic said. “He’s a great player. I was lucky in the second set to get out with a two set advantage. We played some incredible rallies and incredible points. It’s always entertaining, it’s always so much fun to play in these night sessions. And I’m really happy to be in the semifinals.”
Djokovic will now face fourth seeded David Ferrer. The winner will advance to the championship match.
