Dodgers manager Don Mattingly announced Saturday that Kershaw will talk to a hip specialist in New York on Tuesday and then rejoin the team. Mattingly isn’t sure when Kershaw will pitch again for the Dodgers, who are fighting for a playoff spot.

Kershaw tried to test his inflamed left hip on Saturday without a baseball, but the pain was too much to continue.

“Right now, you don’t have time to brace yourself and it’s not a good thought,” Mattingly said.

Kershaw is 12-9 with a 2.70 ERA and leads the National League in innings pitched. He said he was unhappy last time he was scratched from a start, but knows he needs to recover.

“There was no fight as far as him wanting to pitch this time,” Mattingly said. “He knows he can’t pitch with this.”

The Dodgers have not ruled out a four man rotation for the rest of the regular season, but Stephen Fife will take Kershaw’s place in the rotation for now.
