(LOS ANGELES) — Less than a week before she begins the 10th season of her daytime talk show, Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is the 2,477th star on the famed sidewalk.
Calling her life “an interesting journey,” DeGeneres recalled how she visited the Walk of Fame with her family as a child.
She joked, “We looked at the stars on the sidewalk here on Hollywood Boulevard, and we took the tour of celebrity homes. And now today I’m getting a star on the Walk of Fame and I am a stop on the tour of celebrity homes. So…don’t come by.”
DeGeneres’ pal, Jimmy Kimmel, offered some kind words on her behalf.
He admired the way she treats “unenlightened people” who attack her because she’s gay, saying she “engages them, she asks for understanding, she explains that she just wants to be treated the way she treats people, with kindness and respect.”
DeGeneres’ mom, her wife Portia de Rossi, and Ryan Seacrest also attended the ceremony.
The new season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show premieres next Monday.
