The 23rd seed in the Open, Fish played a five-set match against Gilles Simon on Sunday night. After the match, Fish did not talk to the press while he received medical treatment.

The 30-year old American has had health problems in the past, dealing with an accelerated heartbeat earlier in the season. The problem first surfaced after a match in Key Biscayne, Fla., when his heart started racing uncontrollably during the night.

In a statement released by the U.S. Tennis Association on Monday, Fish said he “was reluctant to” withdraw from the year’s last Grand Slam tournament but was “following medical advisement.”

Fish’s agent John Tobias, said in an email that Fish should return to the tennis court in Asia during the fall.

The walkover allowed Federer to reach the quarterfinal round at a Grand Slam tournament for the 34th consecutive time, which furthers his own record.
