Game, Set, Match: Roddick’s Run Is Done

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1346893255687Mike Stobe/Getty Images for USTA(NEW YORK) — Andy Roddick’s run at the U.S. Open is done, and so is his career.  Roddick was defeated 6-7 (1), 7-6 (4), 6-2, 6-4 by Argentinean Juan Martin del Potro in the fourth round of the Open Wednesday, sending Roddick into retirement.

“I didn’t take any of it for granted,” Roddick said of his career. “I think I went about things the right way…umpires might disagree with me. But I was consistent and I don’t feel like I left a lot on the table.

Roddick, who just turned 30, announced last Thursday that he would retire after the tournament. He finishes his career having played in five Grand Slam Finals, winning the 2003 U.S. Open. He has 32 career victories.
