Horsethief Canyon Fire Started in Backyard

(JACKSON, Wyo.) – A wildfire threatening the city of Jackson likely started in a man’s backyard south of town. Preliminary reports suggest that the Horsethief Canyon Fire began Saturday near the home of 76-year-old James Anderson. According to a statement released by his sons, Anderson is “extremely distraught” about the situation and is working with investigators. The blaze has burned more than four square miles, with more than a thousand Jackson residents on alert to evacuate if necessary.
