Hamilton returned to the Ranger’s lineup on Monday night after being diagnosed with ocular keratitis, according to team officials. It is an ailment that results in drying of the cornea, and can be caused by consuming caffeine or energy drinks in excess.

The Rangers slugger left last Tuesday’s game against the Angels after having trouble seeing.

“It’s me we’re talking about here,” Hamilton told reporters prior to Monday’s game. “Guys, it’s me — it’s Josh. It’s going to be something weird.”

Hamilton says he plans to lay off caffiene after this latest incident, which caused him to miss five straight games. “I was loading up on caffeine, and I’m out there in the bright lights,” Hamilton said. “I can’t control my eyes. They are stuck.”

He had a successful return however, blasting his 43rd home run of the year in a 5-4 Rangers win over the Oakland Athletics.
