(NEW YORK) — Maria Sharapova has advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Open after defeating Marion Bartoli in three sets on Wednesday, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The four-time Grand Slam champion found herself down 4-0 when rain halted play on Tuesday. But Sharapova bounced back, breaking Bartoli’s serve at 4-4 in the decisive set. She clinched match point with her 10th ace.
With the victory, Sharapova improves to 12-0 on the season in three-set matches. She will next face top-ranked Victoria Azarenka.
