The youngester from Northern Ireland shot a 5-under 67 in the final round of the BMW Championship to win his second straight FedEx Cup playoff event.

“The more you put yourself in this position, and the more you win and the more you pick up trophies, it becomes normal,” McIlroy said. With the win, he became the first player to win back-to-back events on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods in 2009.

He ended up two shots ahead of Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood, who both finished tied for second. Westwood has long noted the skill of McIlroy. “I played with him when he was 13, and you could see it then,” Westwood said. “He’s just maturing all the time, as he will do. And he’s a very, very good player.”

Woods never contended for the top spot in the final round, but made a late charge to finish tied for fourth after shooting a 68.

McIlroy has now won six tour events after this victory at Crooked Stick. Only Woods and Jack Nickalaus had that many wins by age 23.
