Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne Announces Retirement

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1348699899625Brian Bahr Getty Images (LINCOLN, Neb.) — Former Nebraska head football coach Tom Osborne announced on Wednesday that he is stepping down as the school’s athletic director effective New Year’s Day 2013. He will stay on as athletic director emeritus and work with the department through July 30.

Osborne took over as A.D. in October 2007 following the firing of Steve Pederson. After head coach Bill Callahan led the school’s football team to a 5-7 record in ’07, Osborne replaced him with Bo Pelini.

During his 25 years roaming the sidelines as head coach of the Cornhuskers, Osborne compiled a record of 255-49-3, winning three national championships and 13 conference titles.
