NHL Labor Talks Stall
Published at(NEW YORK) — Things don’t look good if you’re a fan of the NHL. Labor talks between the NHL and NHL Players’ Association have stalled, which more than likely will lead to a lockout with the current collective bargaining agreement set to expire Sept. 15.
The two sides have failed to forge common ground on several fundamental financial issues and could not even agree on who elected to cease negotiations.
“In light of where they are we have nothing to propose, we’re not going to be in the position to bid against ourselves,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on Friday. “We both agreed when either of us has something to say, we’ll pick up the phone.”
NHL Players’ Association Director Donald Fehr remains positive that a deal could happen.
“You take it one day at a time and if it doesn’t work today you try and figure out a way differently tomorrow,” said Fehr. “It doesn’t pay to get up and down, so I try not to.”
No further talks are scheduled at this time.
