NHL Owners in Unanimous Support of Lockout
Published at(NEW YORK) — The owners have spoken. In a unanimous vote taken Thursday, the owners told NHL commissioner Gary Bettman they are in support of a league-imposed lockout if a new deal isn’t reached with the NHL Players’ Association by midnight ET on Saturday.
The two sides traded proposals Wednesday, but are still far apart regarding core economic prospects.
“Obviously the subject of a potential lockout starting at 12:01 Sunday morning came up during the meeting, and there was a fair amount of discussion about that,” NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr said. ” The only thing that needs to be said at this point is that if it comes to that, it’s a choice which was made.”
Nearly 300 players showed up to Thursday’s meeting, including Sidney Crosby, Henrik Lundqvist, Claude Giroux and Zdeno Chara.
