In an interview with the BBC, Sir John Major said the son of Prince Charles and the late Lady Diana Spencer “trained with his colleagues. He will wish to serve with his colleagues. He most emphatically would not wish to move.”

Major said getting Prince Harry off the base would serve as a “propaganda triumph” for the Taliban, which has made no secret about its wish to capture or kill the Royal.

There were reports that Harry was at Camp Bastion, the British base attacked last week that left two Marines dead and several jets destroyed. However, the prince was apparently miles away from the assault.

Meanwhile, Major said that he also agreed with recent statements by British Defense Minister Philip Hammond that the government might consider accelerating its military withdrawal from Afghanistan, which is scheduled for sometime in 2014.

The Conservative Party leader said that President Obama “changed the game and changed it totally” by stating a deadline for withdrawal, something he disagrees with.
