Phillies Win Seventh Straight
Published at(PHILADELPHIA) — The Philadelphia Phillies are starting to make some noise in the National League Wild Card race. The Phillies (72-71) won their seventh straight by defeating the Miami Marlins (63-81) 3-1, on Wednesday night, raising their record above .500 for the first time since June 3.
Cliff Lee (5-7) pitched seven-innings allowing one unearned run, and Jimmy Rollins blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the 7th to give the Phillies the lead for good.
After it looked like this would be a forgotten season, the Phillies are now in the thick of the playoff chase. The win puts Philadelphia only three games behind the Cardinals for the final Wild Card spot.
“We’re in it,” Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. “I’d say we’re dead in it, yeah.”
