Chicago had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and second, but Indians closer Chris Perez got White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham to hit into a game-ending forceout.

White Sox starter Francisco Liriano (6-12) lasted just 3 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

Chicago entered the day with a one-game lead on the Detroit Tigers in the A.L. Central.
