(IDAHO FALLS) – The Idaho School Boards Association is supporting Proposition 1 of the “Students Come First” laws on this year’s ballot. Officials tell Local News 8 that they favor the initiative because it keeps contract negotiations with teachers at the district level. The negotiations would also take place in a public forum, and tenure would be eliminated for new teachers. Idaho’s teachers’ union strongly opposes the law on grounds that it restricts collective bargaining rights. The group is not taking a stance on Propositions 2 or 3.
