(PROMONTORY, UT) — A Utah aerospace company has performed a successful test on a solid rocket motor at its desert facility. The 53-foot-long GEM-60 rocket from ATK burned for 90 seconds with about 270,000 pounds of thrust. The company, which has previously built rockets for the space shuttle program, was testing a new nozzle capable of withstanding extreme heat. They say the new motor will likely be used for transporting satellites and weather monitors.
