Niners quarterback Alex Smith was nearly perfect in the contest. He went 18-19 for 232 yards and threw three touchdowns. In fact, Smith’s 94.7 completion percentage is the highest in NFL history in a single game by a quarterback with a minimum of 15 attempts.

“Eighteen of 19, I have never seen that,” 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said after the win. “How important for your quarterback to play very well? It is very important and I don’t know how you play much better. It was a fantastic game by him.”

While the 49ers offense was impressive against the Cardianls, you could argue their defense was even more impressive. San Francisco held the Cardinals to just seven yards rushing for the entire game.

“This was a big test for us, and everyone saw how it went,” Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said after the game. “It was disappointing to say the least.”

Another big moment in the game happened when Randy Moss caught a 47-yard touchdown pass, giving him 156 for his career, which ranks fourth all-time.
