76ers Center Andrew Bynum to Receive Another Knee Injection

Center Andrew Bynum is set to receive an injection in his knee as he recovers from a non-invasive procedure on his knee in Germany. The team felt it’d best if he held out for most of the preseason to strengthen his knee.

While he is making progress, Bynum will receive a Synvisc injection on his right knee on October 22. The procedure is fairly common among NBA players, and is something Bynum has undergone in the past. Bynum will have fluid injected into his knee joint. The fluid acts like lubrication for the joint. Despite the injection, Bynum remains on track to play in the team’s regular season opener.

“He’s on track to where he thought he’d be at this point in time,” 76ers head coach Doug Collins said. “The next step in getting weight bearing and running. This is not the first time he’s gone through this. He knows how to handle it.”

Bynum was acquired by the team in the four-team trade that brought center Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers.
