95 Sheep Die in Monsanto Mine

(POCATELLO) – Nearly 100 domestic sheep died last week after grazing in a closed Monsanto Co. mine in southeast Idaho. Officials say the sheep were eating grass and other plants in the old Henry Mine, which closed in 1989. The herder was grazing over 1,200 sheep on the property without permission. Researchers from Utah State University say the sheep probably ingested western aster, a purple, daisy-like flower that absorbs selenium from contaminated soil.
