In an interview that aired Sunday on CBS’ 60 Minutes, correspondent Lesley Stahl questioned the actor and former governor of California about the affair, asking, “She gave up her television career for you…was this just the most unbelievable act of betrayal to Maria?”

“I think it was the stupidest thing I’ve done in the whole relationship,” the 65-year-old Schwarzenegger said of his affair with housekeeper Mildred Baena.  “It was terrible.  I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids.”

Schwarzenegger opens up about the affair in a new autobiography set to hit shelves on Monday called, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life.

His ex-wife Shriver hasn’t read the book, according to Schwarzenegger.

“She knows that it’s about my whole life and that I would not write a book and kind of leave out that part and make people feel like, ‘Well, wait a minute.  Are we just getting a book about his success stories and not talk about his failures?” he said.  “I wanted to write a book about me.”
