Athletics pitcher Travis Blackley allowed one run over six innings to earn the victory for Oakland (93-68). Johnny Gomes hit a solo home run for Oakland.

After clinching their first playoff berth since 2006, the Athletics will have a chance to win the AL West when they face the Rangers Wednesday night in the final game of the regular season.

The winner will win the AL West, while the loser will play in the wild-card game on Friday to earn the right to advance to the division series.

The Athletics erased the last piece of what had been a 13-game deficit in the division race on June 30 to take a share of first place for the first time since March 29.

Wednesday night’s finale features A.J. Griffin of the Athletics against Matt Harrison of the Rangers, with the winner taking it all.
