In the files, which range from 1965-1985, there are numerous stories of the Boy Scouts and even police, prosecutors, and mayors trying to cover up the sexual assaults of young boys. The files name more than 1,200 alleged child molesters banned by the Boy Scouts of America.

Attorney Kelly Clark, who represents the victims, said, “The Boy Scouts knew they had an institution-wide problem with child abuse and didn’t take steps to deal with that.”

In about a third of the cases, the Scouts never notified police when they knew about an alleged assault.

The Boy Scouts fought the release of the documents but lost in court.
